Sarah welcomed everyone to the 50th Class Reunion with these remarks.
Welcome, Welcome!  I am Sarah Burcham Tapley – and on behalf of your reunion committee, we would like to tell
you how thrilled we are to see you tonight.  Early on we were hoping for an attendance of at least 150 people.
Instead we made reservations tonight for 266 attendees.  This number includes 171 classmates, 91 spouses (and
significant others), 4 friends who just like our “class of 62” so much they asked if they could come, and one very
special guest.  We are so pleased tonight to have our band director emeritus join us – Mr. Corkey Robinson.

One small piece of business!  If you are parked in the San Jacinto parking garage, I hope you remembered to get
your parking card when you came in so you can receive the reduced parking rate!  If you have not done that, you
need to see George Holmgreen.  Also, if you are parked on the street, good luck!  There is almost NO street
parking and the UT police will ticket.  So I hope you read the signs carefully.

We have a terrific reunion committee who has been working for over a year to put this weekend together. Let me
start by asking Carol Colby Holmgreen to stand.  She is the creator and designer (and put-er togetherer – forgive
me, Mr. Price) of the entire directory AND your webmaster extraordinaire who kept EVERY detail up-to-date on
our website.  We have had many kudos about our website and other reunion groups want to copy it.  There were
a FEW more details that needed to be taken care of: proof readers, questionnaire designers, decorators, Friday
night organizers, Saturday night organizers, band/orchestra luncheon organizer…  Well - you get the picture!
Here’s the rest of your hard working committee (please stand):  Dinah Ledbetter Boultinghouse, Bunny Starnes
Davis, Maryanna Jesse Dickens, Ginny Potts Eanes, Scott Erwin, Ann Hill Froelich, David Gregg, Tom Hill, Sherry
Martin Hill, Jane Cornick Jamison, Carolyn Aldridge McFarland, Kathy Young McGhee, Marty Douglas Rosenfield,
Buck Sandlin, Margie Sanford, Dora Page Tweed, Julie Valentine – and our computer guru, slide show creator,
deejay, honorary classmate, and a guy I think is pretty darn special, Jerry Tapley.  THANKS to each YOU!

We had 88 maroon angels who gave generous donations to assist with the reunion events and allowed us to keep
the cost to the nostalgic amount of $62!  Three of those special angels were Anne Galloway Lefton who did the
whimsical design of our 50th reunion logo, Buck Sandlin who underwrote the printing of the directories, and
Gordon McNutt who underwrote the printing of the invitations.  Thank you, thank you for all those 88 gifts!

I turn the program over now to 2 classmates who designed the questionnaire, read your responses, and are
prepared to share some fun information with you – Kathy Young McGhee and Julie Valentine.

At this point, Kathy and Julie gave a brief presentation of highlights of directory questionnaire responses.

Finally - we have lost several special friends since our last reunion.  One who is not listed and was planning to be
with us tonight is Dale Roper.  I received an email from him just last week that he could not be here due to health
issues.  He did not want a refund but requested that we “tip one on him.”  I learned that we lost him this last
Tuesday night after suffering complications from a blood disorder.  Please take a moment at this time to
remember Dale and all those classmates that are listed in the front of the directory.  They were every one special
– and missed.

Before we get on with the “oldies but goodies," catching up, and laughing, let’s ask Theo Wilkes Coonrod and
Tina McGaughey to come forward and lead us in “Loyal Forever."
